This is my Do It Yourself Restoration MOPAR a 1969 Plymouth Satellite This is what the MOPAR looked like when I bought it before any restoration. I was able to drive it home and it did run pretty good. Most of the cars I looked at had bad frames, holes big enough to put your arm in and would have made any restoration a major deal. This one had an oil leak, the best problem it could have had the frame was solid and oil soaked. The MOPAR had a 318 in it. When I pulled it out I found the oil leak, it was a crack in the block by the cam shaft plug,(that explained the oil all over the frame). I found a new block and had the engine milled by the A Team Speed Shop, an excellent place to do business, then Ray and I assembled it and put it back in the car to start the restoration process. It is still a 318 but now it has a slightly bigger cam, high rise manifold, quad and MSD distributor, powered by a MOPAR Performance box. The first thing I bought was a Detroit Iron Shop Manual this was essential to work on this car. The interior for the MOPAR was purchased from Legendary Interiors, these guys are great. The restoration of the headliner was an experience but it came out looking like new. I also added an after market air conditioner from Classic Auto Air. It took three years and a lot of "what were you thinking" from my wife, and it still isn't complete. It seems there is always something to restore or repair on the car. I can not name all of the places that I purchased parts but some are:
Hoops Wrecking Yard in Wisconsin, Murrays Auto Parts, Eastwood, lot's of swap meets and of course Summit Racing andJegs . The parts are out there for your restoration, you just need to look. |
This is my pit crew for my Mopar restoration. Ray helped with the engine in and out or out and in. Nick is my daughters friend. Every time he came over to visit I grabbed him for assistance. My thanks to both of these guys. I couldn't have done the restoration without them. My wife and daughter also contributed to the car. My wife picked the colors inside and out my daughter provided gift certificates to Murrays Auto Parts along with the fuzzy dice and the "buy something for the car" contributions from my Dad. |
